Organist/Choir Director

 Position Title
  Organist / Choir Director

 Specific Responsibilities
  Provide organ, piano and carillon music for regular Sunday worship services and
  other functions including weddings and funerals as well as each of the special
  Christmas, Easter and Lenten services
  Coordinate weekly with the appropriate church staff in selecting suitable hymns,
  anthems, solos and responses for church services
  Participate in meetings with Minister, Choir and Worship Team
  Direct and assist with recruitment efforts for the growth and development of
  our choir
  Consult with individuals, couples and families with respect to music for weddings,
  funerals and other events
  Arrange for a substitute organist / choir director when needed.

 Background and Qualifications  
  Ability to play the pipe organ (Hallman - 2 Manual), piano and carillon is essential
  Experience in the training and conducting of choirs
  Competence in teaching vocal techniques at various levels
  Qualifications such as a degree in music or other music certification are highly
  desirable, but not mandatory

 Skills and Attributes
  Familiarity with the United Church of Canada's theology
  Sensitivity to inclusive language and welcoming of diversity
  Experience working within a church environment  
  Ability to bring a high level of motivation, maturity and energy to the position
  Flexibility to work approximately 8-10 hours weekly during prescribed hours
  Maintain confidentiality in all matters of the congregation

 Employment
  Salary and Benefits will be negotiated based on qualifications and experience
  The Ministry and Personnel Committee will serve as immediate supervisor
  Work week includes Sundays, Christmas and Easter services and selected evenings  
  for choir or other required rehearsal
  Vacation is negotiable and is typically planned during summer months
  There is a 90 day probationary period for this position
