Refugee Sponsorship

During this summer, a few developments have been made in regards to the reunification of our Refugee family. The conditions in Syria are unbelievably worse than even prior to the fall of President Bashar al-Assad. The entire country is in devastation with the rebel group Hayat Tahriri al-Sham (HTS) controlling most of the cities.

In Turkey, the living continues to be rough on many levels for the family. Fortunately, however, the oldest male was able to become employed in a construction job within the confines of where he lives. This takes some of the pressure off the family here in Peterborough, who are working extremely long days and sending money there to support the family. The oldest male was in hiding because of threats to his life due to his work as a journalist and humanitarian and unable to work until now. The family has been assured that they shouldn't give up hope, and that we are all working extremely hard to reunite the entire family here in Peterborough. The family was uplifted and once again have a hopeful outlook greater than their fear.

The family's application for immigration to Canada as refugees is with the Canadian Embassy in Ankara, Turkey. Since the process is making some headway, a bank account has been opened in preparation for their arrival. We will have full control over the money in that account. The family that is here in Peterborough have saved $5,000.00 towards the Sponsorship Funds. That money will be deposited into the account this week. Our four churches, Greenwood, Westdale, Northminster and Mark Street won't be required to transfer our donations at this time. Thank you for your continued support of this resettlement. We are just $1,285.11 short of our pledge of $8,000.00.
